Superintendent’s Message

Benicia Unified School District Community,

We are almost mid-way through September, and I am pleased with the school year thus far. As a staff, we implemented new curricula, policies and procedures, and technology platforms to facilitate growth. While change can present challenges, BUSD staff and educational partners have handled the transition gracefully. I am very grateful to work within a community that genuinely cares about its schools and programs. We are fortunate to have a dedicated and supportive group of educational partners, who are fundamental to our success. Your support and dedication are deeply appreciated and valued.

As a veteran educator and father, I recognize that children are our most prized resources and understand that we collectively have a responsibility to contribute to their growth. Thank you for entrusting BUSD staff to educate your children, a responsibility we do not take lightly. BUSD staff works diligently and will continue creating opportunities for learning and growth and ensuring every student feels valued and has the wherewithal to exceed their potential and reach their goals.

Recently, I had the pleasure of visiting classrooms and observing teaching and learning transpiring. I was inspired by the collaborative exchanges, watching students solve complex math equations, engage in meaningful discussion, and safely sharing their curiosity amongst peers. Strong evidence of Best First Instruction and student learning is a testament to the dedication of our teachers and the potential of our students. I want to extend my heartfelt thanks to our BUSD team—classified staff, certificated staff, and management. Your dedication to removing obstacles, fostering academic and social-emotional growth, and establishing a positive, growth-oriented culture is commendable.

I also want to acknowledge and thank our parents, guardians, and supporters. The foundation you set at home is not just essential, but it is the foundation of your children’s success. It is evident how they come prepared, encouraged, and engaged in our programs. We are incredibly fortunate to have such wonderful students in our district, which directly reflects the support they receive from you.

BUSD is committed to continuous improvement and excellence. We will continue striving to be better every day because our students deserve the very best. We want our commitment to reassure you of our continuous efforts and instill confidence in our collective journey towards excellence.
